ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the nerve cells controlling voluntary muscle movement. As these nerve cells break down, people gradually lose the ability to walk, speak, eat, and eventually breathe. Today ALS is 100% fatal and affects about 1 in 300 people, impacting not only those diagnosed but also their families and loved ones.
