Patient-first service: River Landing Dentistry opens in Mount Pleasant

Moultrie News Nov. 21, 2024

After nearly seven years of dental care in the Lowcountry, River Landing Dentistry celebrated its Mount Pleasant debut with a Nov. 19 ribbon-cutting.

The confetti cans were popping at the 790 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. office, as Town officials joined members of the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce in welcoming the dentistry that now features five locations in the Lowcountry.

The woman behind the dental care provider's rapid growth is Dr. Rebeca Zechmann, a Mooresville, North Carolina native, who prides herself in offering an "amazing" patient experience at her offices in Daniel Island, Summerville, Nexton, North Charleston and now, Mount Pleasant.
Her recent expansions, she explained, have come about not only to serve more people, but also as a response to rampant and ongoing consolidation in the industry.

"There's positives and negatives to that. But a bigger negative is you've got corporate entities sometimes dictating. Any time corporate comes into medicine, we know that it could adversely affect patient care," said Zechmann, who practiced in Baltimore for several years before her move to the Lowcountry in 2018.

So, as large corporate entities continue to gobble up smaller dental practices, River Landing has sought to continually grow to stay competitive as a doctor-owned and operated healthcare provider.

River Landing's team of dental surgeons and staff members are committed to accommodating their clients from the moment they step into any of its local venues, according to the married mother of three. Part of this patient-first model includes the presence of ceiling TVs in every examination room.

"I try to make each office feel as little like an office as possible. You're sitting in a living room instead of a waiting room," she continued.

In addition, the group practice offers same-day service and varied treatments in one location, as well as extended hours.

As a professional with decades of experience, Zechmann also recognizes that patients expect transparency from their dentists in terms of giving them an accurate diagnosis and a range of treatment options.

"The main thing is to inform you and empower you to make the decision yourself," she added. "So, some patients, they see something and they want to address it immediately. Other patients would rather wait and address it."

That open line of communication applies to being upfront with customers on what their out-of-pocket costs will be before initiating a recommended procedure.

As for cosmetic offerings, Zechmann shared that her group of 12 dentists take great pride in making people look their best.

"It's not just like how white your teeth are, but it's the shape of your teeth; it's the position of the gums. It's your face and your smile. So, it's a very rewarding aspect of dentistry because it helps someone's confidence."

River Landing's vision of positively influencing people through humane dental care is based on five core values:
• Compassion
• Positive attitude
• Teamwork
• Striving for excellence
• Taking initiative

These foundational tenets, she reasoned, combine to help calm a patient who may be apprehensive due to a less-than-memorable trip to the dentist years prior.

"We're doing microsurgery while you're awake. Our faces are all very close to your face — we're in your personal space. So, the primary job is to make you feel comfortable," observed Zechmann.
