In recognition of her service and dedication to fighting crime, Det. St. Claire Clinkscales was recognized as the First Responder of the Month at the Aug. 15 Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce Luncheon.
Before presenting the honoree with a transparent mantelpiece, Mount Pleasant PD Deputy Chief Tyrone Simmons lauded his colleague on her assiduous investigation of a potential child abduction.
A child’s report of a man in a white pickup trying to lure him into his vehicle prompted Clinkscales to check all resident surveillance areas, he recounted, as well as employing an automatic license plate reader to identify the vehicle in question.
The fact that white is the most popular color of pickup trucks in South Carolina worked against the officer, continued Simmons, but it didn’t prevent her from narrowing down her search to 1,300 vehicles.
Her probing efforts led her to a construction site, where the person of interest explained that he didn’t proposition the youngster, but merely quipped that his mom wanted him home.
Clinkscales concluded that the subject was being truthful.
“Due to her persistent work, her ingenuity, true attention to detail, Det. Clinckscales produced answers for our community,” said Simmons. “The incident was ultimately not determined criminal, but one that was certainly taken seriously.”
