Moultrie News June 20, 2024

A round of applause and accolades were in order for outgoing Awendaw-McClellanville Deputy Fire Chief Michael Bowers, who was recognized as the First Responder of the Month at the June 20 Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce Luncheon.

Mount Pleasant Fire Department Chief Mike Mixon Jr. apprised listeners at the Omar Shrine Temple of the services the retiring Bowers and his crew provide to the unincorporated areas of Mount Pleasant, as well as covering parts of the Isle of Palms.

The Town’s commanding fire officer mentioned the pleasure he derived from collaborating with the 26-year first responder, who would support Mount Pleasant in terms of response and training.

“He’s been wonderful to work with,” said Mixon of the Atlanta, Georgia native. “He sat on our interview boards and he’s just been that consummate professional.”

Moreover, Mixon expressed his gratitude for how all the departments in Charleston County work closely together while further highlighting the wisdom that Bowers shared with his fellow firefighters throughout his storied career.

Bowers was gifted with a handsome mantelpiece for his years of dutiful service. The award presentation was sponsored by Pinnacle Financial Partners.
