Description
Anita Huggins, Superintendent of Charleston County School District (CCSD), has dedicated over 25 years to the district as a teacher, principal, and leader. Renowned for her commitment to equity and student success, she has focused on closing achievement and opportunity gaps, improving outcomes for all students, and streamlining supports for teachers and classrooms. A key architect of Vision 2027, which aspires to have all students reading at grade level by fifth grade, Huggins has also played a significant role in helping CCSD achieve its highest-ever SC Ready scores. Her leadership has been pivotal in planning and implementing district-wide literacy and mathematics initiatives, supported by ESSER funding, to serve communities across Charleston.
Throughout her career, Huggins has designed systems for teacher development, spearheaded recognition programs like An Evening with Stars, and created impactful professional development opportunities for educators. Huggins holds bachelor’s degrees in English and Secondary Education and a master’s degree in Secondary Administration. Her enthusiasm, expertise, and unwavering commitment to students uniquely position her to lead CCSD into a successful future.
