Camp Rise Above is a unique non-profit organization that provides fun, adaptive life-changing camp experiences to children and young adults with serious illnesses, life challenges, and disabilities. CRA believes that all children should experience the magic of childhood and summer camp, regardless of their medical status. Since 2010, our mission to provide life-changing camp experiences to children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and challenges has driven our work. From the start of CRA, we have been able to implement two main programs: CRA at the Hospital and CRA Summer Camp sessions, which are both still flourishing today and allow us to serve hundreds of deserving children across the state of South Carolina. We host in-hospital programs three times per month, a weeklong youth overnight camp, a family retreat weekend, a weeklong youth day camp at James Island County Park, an Above and Beyond adult weekend retreat, and so much more. We are also able to host Family Fun Days throughout the year around the Lowcountry which allow our families and campers to stay connected between camp sessions. Not only do these programs provide an opportunity for our campers to re-connect with children just like them, but it also affords parents the chance to engage with other families that are dealing with similar challenges and gives them a much-needed network of support and inclusion.
