DESCRIPTION:Are you a Veteran Owned Business?\n\n\n\nPlease join us for the upcoming quarterly meeting! \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Joe Waring\, CEO of Veterans Help Group\n\n\n\nVeterans Disability Advocates - Veterans Help Group\n\n\n\nJoe Waring is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of EP Group\, where he leads the firm in acquiring and building out new platforms.  He directly oversees the company's investment in Veterans Help Group\, a leading team of accredited advocates representing veterans in the disability compensation process.\n\n\n\nWaring previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for Evening Post Industries until its restructuring in 2021. While at Evening Post Industries\, he worked on numerous acquisitions and divestitures in broadcast television\, hospice care\, marketing services and disability advocacy.  The most notable deals were the sale of 15 broadcast T.V. stations by Cordillera Communications to E.W. Scripps for $521 million in 2019 and the sale of 16 hospice locations under the Heart of Hospice brand to LHC Group in 2021.\n\n\n\nBefore joining Evening Post Industries in 2013\, Waring spent 8 years at HSBC Group in Chicago\, New York\, and London working in corporate strategy roles.\n\n\n\nHe holds a Bachelor's Degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Waring also holds a Juris Doctorate and an International Masters of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.\n\n\n\nWaring has the pleasure of serving on various non-profit boards.  He is Chairman of Be A Mentor\, is past Chairman of the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired S.C.\, is on the Board of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce\, and on the Board of Society of International Business (SIBF) Fellows.  He previously served on the Board of the Charleston Animal Society and was a previous Treasurer of the Post and Courier Foundation  He is a proud Liberty Fellow and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.\n\n\n\nWaring is a native Charlestonian.  He and his wife\, Silvia\, are devoted to their three children.\n\n\n\nVeteran Spotlighted Business: \n\nThomas Perez\, a retired Naval Officer\, is the founder and lead financial advisor at Indian Bayou\n\nFinancial\, a Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management practice. A graduate of the Citadel\, Tom\n\nruns his financial practice in Charleston SC\, with clients across the country\, where he focuses on\n\nfinancial planning for families\, military veterans\, and small to mid-sized businesses primarily in\n\nthe tech and defense sectors. Tom and his wife Ullas are also motivational speakers where they\n\nhelp people to live a life of abundance.\n\n\n\nTom actively volunteers his time in many organizations including his church\, the Citadel Corps\n\nof Cadet Leadership Mentor program\, and volunteering with veteran's organizations like\n\nWarriorWod.\n\n\n\nIn his military career\, Tom served 28 years of combined active and reserve military service. He\n\nbegan his career on active duty as a Radioman and Navy diver in the U.S. Navy submarine\n\nservice before transitioning to the Navy Reserve\, where he attended The Citadel on his G.I. Bill\n\nand earned his commission. Tom retired a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserve in the\n\nInformation Warfare Community\, which handles the cyber-warfare\, space\, and intel workload\n\nfor the Navy. Tom completed multiple overseas missions and deployments\, including his final\n\ndeployment in 2017-2018 when he was deployed to Afghanistan in support of both the U.S.\n\nOperation Freedom's Sentinel and the NATO Operation Resolute Support.\n\n\n\nThomas and his wife Ullas\, originally from India\, live in Mount Pleasant\, South Carolina with\n\ntheir two daughters\, Ava (14) and Julianna (9).
